In a major stride toward enhancing grassroots electoral management, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has launched its eighth and largest training batch for Booth Level Officer (BLO) Supervisors at the India International Institute of Democracy and Election Management (IIIDEM), New Delhi. A total of 373 election functionaries from Chhattisgarh (96), Haryana (29), Madhya Pradesh (130), and Uttar Pradesh (118) began their training, making it the biggest batch to date. Over the past two months, more than 3,720 field officials have been trained by the ECI in the national capital. Chief Election Commissioner Shri Gyanesh Kumar inaugurated the session, highlighting the critical importance of adhering to the Representation of the People Act (1950, 1951), Registration of Electors Rules (1960), Conduct of Election Rules (1961), and ECI-issued guidelines. He emphasized the participants’ role in understanding and educating citizens about the appeal mechanisms under Section 24 of the RP Act, ensuring transparency and accountability in the final electoral rolls. The training is designed to offer hands-on experience in voter registration, form processing, and field-level implementation. Officials will also gain practical exposure to vital election technology, including EVMs, VVPATs, and IT tools, alongside mock polling demonstrations. Notably, no appeals were filed from the participating states after the Special Summary Revision held in January 2025, reflecting an improved voter roll process. The initiative reflects ECI’s commitment to empowering frontline officers and fortifying democratic processes at the grassroots.
