Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar called the Government’s decision to include caste-based enumeration in the upcoming census a “transformative and game-changing step”, asserting it would help bring social justice and policy accountability. Addressing Indian Statistical Service (ISS) probationers, he described caste data as an instrument of integration, not division, likening it to an MRI—vital for diagnosing the social fabric of the nation. He underlined that effective governance depends on robust, real-time data, comparing policy-making without it to “surgery in the dark.” Stressing that statistics reflect human stories, the VP urged young officers to be the architects of equality and instruments of strategic foresight. Shri Dhankhar emphasized that India’s ambition of becoming a developed nation by 2047 is rooted in evidence-based planning, where every data point serves as a compass for sustainable development and national security. Highlighting the importance of demographic analysis, he noted that statistical insights are essential in preserving sovereignty and forecasting challenges. The Vice President also celebrated India’s linguistic diversity as a pillar of unity, rejecting divisiveness around language. He praised the National Education Policy for promoting mother-tongue-based education, including technical fields like engineering and medicine. Calling India a nation on the rise with unprecedented economic growth, he commended the synergy between visionary political leadership and a high-performing bureaucracy, saying this combination is fueling the country’s transformation into a global powerhouse.
