Prime Minister Narendra Modi today laid the foundation stone and inaugurated a series of transformative projects worth nearly Rs 47,600 crore, marking a significant leap forward in the city’s infrastructure, defense production, and industrial growth. Addressing a large gathering, the Prime Minister paid heartfelt tribute to Shri Shubham Dwivedi, a Kanpur native and victim of recent terror attacks, reaffirming India’s unyielding resolve against terrorism under the successful Operation Sindoor. Highlighting India’s growing self-reliance in defense, PM Modi praised the precision strike capabilities of indigenous weapons like the BrahMos missile, a testament to the Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat initiatives. He emphasized that Uttar Pradesh, especially Kanpur, is emerging as a powerhouse of defense manufacturing with modernized ordnance factories and a dedicated Defense Corridor, setting the stage for India to become a major global defense exporter. The Prime Minister underscored the government’s commitment to reviving Kanpur’s industrial glory by boosting energy security, infrastructure, and connectivity. He inaugurated several major power plants, including the 660 MW Panki and Neyveli Power Plants and the 1320 MW Jawaharpur Plant, which will substantially enhance Uttar Pradesh’s power capacity and support rapid industrial growth. Kanpur’s urban landscape is undergoing a remarkable transformation with the expansion of the Kanpur Metro, including the newly inaugurated Chunniganj to Kanpur Central section featuring underground stations linking key commercial hubs. PM Modi also announced a Rs 1,000 crore elevated rail corridor project to ease traffic congestion caused by multiple railway crossings, alongside upgrades to Kanpur Central Railway Station, which will soon rival an airport in modernity. Further strengthening the region’s infrastructure, the Prime Minister laid the foundation for crucial road widening and strengthening projects that will improve connectivity within Kanpur and link important industrial and defense zones. He also inaugurated state-of-the-art water treatment facilities promoting sustainable water reuse. Championing the growth of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), PM Modi highlighted new government initiatives to expand credit access, simplify regulations, and empower traditional industries like Kanpur’s leather and hosiery sectors under the One District, One Product program. Addressing social welfare, the Prime Minister distributed Ayushman Vay Vandana Cards to senior citizens, ensuring free medical care, and extended support through various livelihood schemes, reinforcing the government’s focus on inclusive development.
