In a powerful display of strategic partnership and military camaraderie, a 45-member Indian Army contingent has departed for Mongolia to participate in the 17th edition of the India-Mongolia Joint Military Exercise, Nomadic Elephant, to be held in Ulaanbaatar from May 31 to June 13, 2025. This annual bilateral exercise, conducted alternately in both nations, aims to bolster defence cooperation and operational synergy under a United Nations mandate. Represented primarily by troops from the Arunachal Scouts, the Indian contingent will train alongside Mongolia’s elite 150-member Special Forces unit. The joint training will focus on enhancing interoperability in semi-conventional operations within semi-urban and mountainous terrains, a vital skillset for UN peacekeeping and modern warfare scenarios. This edition’s scope includes a Platoon-level Field Training Exercise, featuring high-intensity activities such as endurance training, reflex shooting, small team tactics, room intervention, rock craft, and for the first time — elements of cyber warfare. The goal is to foster mutual learning and build tactical coordination through real-world challenges and combined drills. Exercise Nomadic Elephant is not only a testament to the enduring friendship and trust between India and Mongolia but also a symbol of their shared commitment to regional peace, security, and stability. It reflects the growing depth of India-Mongolia defence relations, rooted in historical ties and strengthened by ongoing military collaboration and cultural understanding.
