In a major push towards enhancing transportation infrastructure, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved two ambitious multi-tracking railway projects in Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh. With a combined investment of approximately ₹3,399 crore, these projects aim to expand the Indian Railways network by 176 kilometers across four districts, benefiting nearly 784 villages with a population of around 19.74 lakh. Set for completion by 2029-30, the projects fall under the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan, focusing on seamless multi-modal connectivity. These essential routes will improve the movement of key commodities like coal, cement, fly ash, agricultural produce, and petroleum products. The capacity expansion is expected to handle an additional 18.40 million tonnes of freight annually, drastically reducing logistics costs and boosting economic growth. Beyond economic benefits, these green rail corridors are projected to save over 20 crore litres of oil and cut down carbon emissions by 99 crore kilograms-an environmental impact equivalent to planting 4 crore trees. The construction phase will also create around 74 lakh human-days of direct employment, supporting local livelihoods and fostering self-reliance in the region. These transformative rail initiatives will not only ease travel and transport but also mark a significant stride toward building a sustainable, efficient, and Atmanirbhar Bharat.
