In a major success against drug trafficking, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has seized heroin and methamphetamine worth around ₹23.5 crore in two separate operations carried out in Manipur and Assam. Acting on precise intelligence, the DRI, along with the 19 BN Assam Rifles, intercepted a truck on National Highway-37 near Noney, Manipur, on May 21, 2025. Upon thorough inspection, officials discovered 569 grams of heroin and 1,039 grams of methamphetamine tablets cleverly hidden inside a specially fabricated cavity on the truck’s chassis.

The next day, on May 22, 2025, in a coordinated effort with the Assam Rifles FIU Unit Silchar, another truck was intercepted at Aloicherra in Assam’s Hailakandi district. A deep search of the vehicle led to the recovery of 2,640.53 grams of heroin concealed in a specially designed hidden compartment under the bedload floor. In both operations, the contraband substances were seized under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. Four individuals involved in the smuggling network have been arrested. The DRI continues to tighten its grip on drug traffickers in the region. Since January this year, the DRI has seized narcotics including ganja, heroin, and meth tablets worth ₹173 crore and arrested 26 people in the North Eastern Region alone. These back-to-back operations underline the agency’s strong resolve to curb the drug menace in one of the most sensitive and vulnerable regions of the country.
