Mission Cotton Productivity, Sustainable Fibre Push, and Tech Adoption Key to India’s Textile Leap. Union Minister of Textiles, Shri Giriraj Singh, spearheaded a high-level Textile Advisory Group (TAG) meeting in New Delhi today, aimed at accelerating India’s journey towards a $350 billion textile economy by 2030. The session focused on cotton and man-made fibre (MMF) sectors and brought together key stakeholders from across the industry and government. Highlighting the Mission for Cotton Productivity, the Minister emphasized the need for innovation, data-driven decision-making, and a unified approach to improve cotton yield and quality. “Integration, Innovation, Scale, and Speed will be the pillars of our export growth,” he stated, urging collaboration across the textile value chain. In a major boost to sustainable farming, Shri Giriraj Singh also pointed to milkweed as a dual-benefit crop—offering farmers a new income stream and the industry a high-performance fibre with exceptional thermal and physical properties. Minister of State for Textiles, Shri Pabitra Margherita, echoed the call for synergy, stressing the importance of sustainable practices and cutting-edge technology to meet Vision 2030. Textiles Secretary Smt. Neelam Shami Rao reinforced the importance of a unified roadmap and deeper integration across the value chain. Industry leaders lauded the government’s proactive stance on technology adoption, sustainable fibre promotion, and stronger farmer-industry linkages. Senior representatives from multiple ministries, research bodies, and textile associations participated in the consultation, ensuring a comprehensive approach to sectoral growth.
