As India celebrates the 10th anniversary of the International Day of Yoga (IDY), Visakhapatnam—the official national host city for IDY 2025—is at the forefront of preparations with an all-out push to promote yoga as a daily practice. Senior officials from the Ministry of Ayush and the Government of Andhra Pradesh, including Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha, Shri K. Vijayanand, and other key dignitaries, conducted a high-level review of major venues like RK Beach, Rishikonda Beach, Andhra University, and GITAM University. These sites will host large-scale yoga demonstrations, cultural programs, and wellness activities aimed at making yoga more inclusive and accessible. The state’s ambitious “Yogandhra” campaign, targeting over two crore citizens, is central to this effort—featuring mass awareness drives, yoga camps in educational institutions, and a vision to train 20 lakh certified yoga practitioners. With one lakh locations set for IDY celebrations across Andhra Pradesh and an expected turnout of five lakh participants in Visakhapatnam alone, the city is poised to showcase the power of yoga in uniting people and promoting holistic health. Officials emphasized strong inter-departmental coordination, security, infrastructure, and community mobilization to reflect the Prime Minister’s vision of “Yoga for One Earth, One Health.”
